Divorce – consider the options

Issuing divorce proceedings can be a distressing time and it may take some time to reach a decision that the marriage is at an end, even if the marriage has been unhappy for many years.

It is our job to not automatically assume that our client wants a divorce. A client often wants to see a solicitor at a first meeting simply to highlight the issues within the marriage and discuss possible options for the future, which may include:

  • Reconciliation.
  • Counselling (marriage or family counselling).
  • A parenting agreement.
  • Parenting classes.
  • Anger management classes.
  • Therapy for addiction.
  • Separation
    • on an informal basis;
    • supported by a separation agreement drafted by solicitors; or
    • formally through judicial separation.
  • Entering into a post-nuptial agreement to formalise the financial arrangements between the parties which may make a party feel more financially secure in the relationship

For more information regarding your options, or any other divorce related matter, please contact our Family department in Wrexham 01978 291000, Chester 01244 312166 or Llanrwst 01492 641222.
