John Partington

Consultant Solicitor

John is a solicitor in our Dispute Resolution Department, dealing primarily with private and commercial dispute resolution. He has had conduct of many and varied cases, from the Small Claims Court to the Court of Appeal relating to breaches of contract, negligence, nuisance, trespass, trusts of land, contentious probate and estate disputes. He has also conducted cases through mediation and the Land Tribunal. John also has a particular interest in landlord and tenant law and assisting commercial clients with drafting bespoke contractual terms. Recent cases John has worked on include:

  • Advising shareholders of a private limited company on cross-option agreements and related trust documents from life insurers.
  • Advising landlords of commercial premises lease renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954/forfeiture/enforcement/tenant’s covenants.
  • Advising a private limited company of its’ obligations under a guarantee for the benefit of another company in the light of representations made prior to the guaranteeĀ  being executed.
  • Advising a high net worth IT company on contractual issues arising under its’ Terms and Conditions and those of associated clients/suppliers.
  • Advising and conducting adjudication on a building dispute for an established local construction company.

John qualified as a Solicitor in 1981. He has worked at Allington Hughes since his Articles, becoming a Partner in 1984, a director upon incorporation in 2013 and then went on to be a Consultant Solicitor in 2022.

John is a law graduate from Aberystwyth University and has over 30 years experience in private and commercial dispute resolution. He spent his first 8 years post-qualification in private client non-contentious work.
