Our charges are calculated by reference to the time spent on the file at an hourly charging rate, referred to as the Time-Costs element. In some circumstances, we may charge a Value element in addition to the Time-Costs element.

We set out our Time-Costs pricing structure, which shows a range of costs and scenarios. These prices cover estates that are uncontested and where all the assets are situated in the UK.

Whether we charge a Value element in addition to our Time-Costs element will be determined by a number of different factors. These may include the value of the estate, the complexity of the matter, whether the estate qualifies for certain reliefs such as Agricultural Property Relief, known as APR, or Business Property Relief, known as BPR, and whether any land involved is unregistered.

We will also take into account the skill, labour, specialised knowledge and responsibility involved in dealing with the estate.

In accordance with Law Society guidance, the Value element will be charged at up to 1.5% of the gross estate, excluding the value of the deceased’s residence, in estates where one or more of our directors act as executors, whether solely or jointly with anybody else.

Where we are not acting as executors, the Value element will be charged at up to 1% of the gross estate, excluding the value of the deceased’s residence.

Where we are executors

The Value element relating to the deceased’s residence will be charged at up to 4% of its value.

Where we are not executors

The Value element relating to the deceased’s residence will be charged at up to 0.5% of its value.

Our Costs Do Not Include

1

Any inheritance tax payable.

2

Any income tax payable during the lifetime of the deceased or during the estate administration period.

Our costs also do not include any capital gains tax or the calculation of either tax. We do not routinely prepare tax returns and will normally instruct accountants to complete this work.

3

Any inquiry raised by the Department for Work and Pensions.

The final cost of administering an estate will depend on its individual circumstances, complexity and the work required.
